Condolences

Condolence From: Harriet Shriner Worden
Condolence: Alvin will forever live in my heart...we grew up next door to each other on Lundy's Lane and played many Kick the Bucket's, Simon Says, Hide and Seek etc with Thelma, Jim and friends summer evenings in his Uncle Norman's spare lot, and skating there in the winter...wonderful, heartwarming memories. I extend my deepest sympathy to Lisa and her family. Your Dad was so proud of you and your two children. Also condolences to Thelma and her family who will all miss Al. May the memories you've all shared through the years comfort you during these difficult days.

Condolence: Al Edwards June 3, 2018

Donna and I brought Al some smoothies Saturday June 2nd and sat and watched the 1956 “Around the World in 80 Days” with him just home from another Hospital stay. Al and Pearl had planned to join his daughter Lisa and other Stargas Propane employees attending the Rotary Shaw Garden Party Sunday June 3rd but was too weak to attend and at 9pm, that’s when we all got the sad news of his passing.

My 38 year relationship with Al as fellow employee and peer and 45 years knowledge and interactions with Al through Viking Welding Supplies a Liquid Air Distributor in Mississauga and interacted with Al at Canadian Liquid Air Training courses in Montreal, Brampton and Toronto etc. as Al had been working for Canadian Liquid Air or their Distributors since 1963.

I bought Penn Oxygen in 1980 and Al was my first fellow employee. The 3 of us, a driver, Baden Curtis and Al was the inside man and was working the order desk. We took that small little company to what it is today.

Al was instrumental in opening a second branch in Niagara Falls when we bought Border City Welding Supplies as Al had worked there for over 10 years and did most of the merger operations and Sales Functions.

Al had done it All! His 55 year career in the welding supply and compressed gases industry covered from Truck Driver, Inside Man, Order Desk, and Technical Sales Representative.

He was a professor for many years at Niagara College, Welland Campus, Teaching Fundamentals of Welding I and II

His love of imparting welding knowledge to our customers and students starting out on their careers and his love of His two tone Blue 1954 Packard Clipper and Model A Ford that he fully restored himself piece by piece. He used to say to me “His hobbies keep him busy and humble” There was no more a like-able and humble person than Al, soft spoken, yet “Wisdom flowed from every word he spoke” in Al’s special way.

He was as "Canadian" as you could be! His Grand Father, Father and Uncle all served together in the Great War and Al’s Grand Father and Uncle Died in the Arms of AL’s father at Passchendaele October 1917 known as the Third Battle of Ypres. These acts of Bravery greatly influenced Al his whole life, Sacrifice for your loved ones and Country!

Al will be sadly missed by all of us at Stargas Propane and all of AL’s customers and students that make their living with the Welding knowledge Al imparted to them. Al was still working at 88 up until a few months ago! They all feel the same as they have been asking about Al’s health since he started this new journey, that Al has now travelled too.

I believe Al was called by St Peter for a new welding Job; as Al, as we all know will never stop working! Clouds in the sky will now be seamless, better built and run more smoothly across the Azure Sky, as Al Edwards will surely be in Charge now of Welding the Clouds together better and making them run as smooth as his Azure two tone baby blue 1954 Packard!
