Obituary for David Fotheringham

DAVID FOTHERINGHAM March 29, 1945 – July 18, 2022

He was born in Westdale, Hamilton and was the second son of Harry and Ruby Fotheringham who owned “Fotheringham Dry Cleaners” in the city. Dave received his education in Westdale and at The University of Western Ontario. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Honors Business Administration and went on to receive his “Chartered Accountant” designation. For the first part of his career Dave worked for Coopers and Lybrand in their Hamilton and Toronto offices. In the early 1980s he joined Canon Canada where at the time of his retirement in 2005 he held a Vice-President position. Having a keen interest in equestrian sports Dave was a member of the Hamilton Hunt Club. For many years he owned field hunters and competed at local horse shows. When he met his husband and partner in 1979, they cultivated their shared interest in horses, antiques and travel. Upon their retirement they moved to Niagara Falls and undertook the rehabilitation of the historic Oswald House and Gardens. Dave also served as a member of the Municipal Heritage Committee. The couple later relocated to St. Catharines where he was a director of their condominium‘s Board of Directors, serving in the capacity of its President. At the time of his passing his husband Steve and nephew Pat were at his bedside. Dave is survived by Steven Bailey his partner for 43 years; sister-in-law Marilyn Lane: brother-in-law Terry Bailey: niece Renee Williams: step nephews Patrick Olson and Mark Christensen; step nieces Susan Christensen and Patricia Ladd. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Andrew. Arrangements have been entrusted to MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls. To honor Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will follow. Thank you to the doctors at St. Catharines Hospital and the staff of the 2nd floor Critical Care and Medicine/Telemetry Units. Dave may be remembered through a donation to one of his favourite charities – the Casey House (Hospice) Foundation or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Fund.
