RAKONJAC, Dmitar
March 5, 1942 - January 14, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Dmitar (Mike) Rakonjac on January 14, 2021, at the age of 78 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Julia; his children: Radoje, Radmila, Zoli and Mary Ann (John); his grandchildren: Ashley, Stephanie (Jean-Luc), Caleb, Ethan, Melina and Kyle; and his great grandchildren: Makayla and Lauren. Dmitar is also survived by his brothers: Stefan (Gordana) and Mirko (Verica); his sisters: Dara (Velemir) and Stoja (Zoran); and brother-in-law: Steve (Rita). He will be dearly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both in Canada and Serbia.
Dmitar had a fulfilling career as an electrician and retired from the Ford Glass Plant in Niagara Falls. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who went on to pursue his passion by owning and operating “Bush Lake Camp”, as a result he made many lifelong friends.
For over 50 years, Dmitar was an active member of the Serbian community in Niagara Falls who would without hesitation, always lend a hand.
All who loved him, will forever remember his charm, infectious smile and kind spirit. He often spent summers hosting large get togethers where there was sure to be lamb or pork on the spit. He embraced his love of music and the special moments dancing with his wife.
Arrangements entrusted to Morse & Son Funeral Home. Under current pandemic conditions, the funeral service and interment will be private. Service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/morseandson on Thursday, January 21st, 2021 at 1 o’clock and also at the cemetery, following the funeral service. Visit thebao.ca or call the funeral home for further information. If restrictions loosen, it is the intention of the family to hold a memorial service at the six-month anniversary of Dmitar’s death.
In Lieu in flowers, donations can be made to St. George Serbian Orthodox church in Niagara Falls.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at the Welland hospital for their empathy, excellent care and compassion shown throughout his battle with dementia while in the hospital.
