Obituary for Douglas Hetherington

Douglas Hetherington
HETHERINGTON, Douglas – The family of Doug Hetherington sadly announces his passing on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Tufford Manor, St. Catharines. Dad lived a wonderful life of 94 years, 71 of those married to our mom Ethel (Gyenes). He leaves his three children; David (Ann), Rick (Carol) and Beth Legere (Tom), seven much loved grandchildren; Lee (Mandy), Kyle (Shannon), Andrew, Michael (Jennifer), Lauren, Meg and Heather and two adored great grandsons; Matthew and Miles, survived by sisters; Lydia Britt, Violet Warden and Margaret Dickson and brother Ken (Jean) and sisters-in-law; Evelyn and Carol. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Liz Bratley (Bob), many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by brothers; William (Margaret), Alexander, James, George and Robert (Ruth) and infant sister Peggy, brothers-in-law; Lorne Britt, Ken Warden, Bob Dickson and Bill Gyenes (Goldie). Dad was born on January 30, 1925 in Niagara Falls, New York and was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario. He was a proud WWII Veteran having served as a Technical Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. He returned home in 1945 and worked for 41 years at Sir Adam Beck, Ontario Hydro. He and mom were members of Kitchener Street and Lundy’s Lane United Churches where Dad joyfully sang in their choirs. He was also a long-standing member of the Adoniram Lodge No. 573, A.F. & A.M. He and mom enjoyed many years of travel and volunteering, but most important to them was spending time with their grandchildren in Windsor, Kincardine and Peterborough.
Our family would like to extend our affection and gratitude to the caring staff at both Willoughby Manor and Tufford Manor and to Dr. David Dec and staff and Dr. Luce for their compassionate medical care.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, ON, on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate the amazing life of Douglas, will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 1 p.m. Burial Fairview Cemetery. Donations in Dad’s memory can be made to Meals on Wheels or Project Share (two organizations important to Dad).
