Obituary for Douglas Aitchison

AITCHISON, Douglas Lorne
December 6, 1933 – May 3, 2023
It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Doug on May 3, 2023, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of 64 years to the precious love of his life, Joanne [Rock]. Dearly loved father of Doug Jr., Anne [Kevin] Wilson, and Mary. Cherished grandfather of Chelsey, Jake, Quinn [Jessie], Laura, and Noah. Great-grandfather of dear Emmy. Brother-in-law of Gwen and George Barrie, and Karl Campbell. Dear cousin and uncle of many. Predeceased by his parents Lorne and Janet [Tuck], and sisters Nora and Joan [Earle] Varty. Doug grew up in small town Ontario, moving as father Lorne's career with the railroad dictated and “finding a new ballpark in each town”. He had a lifelong passion for sports, health and fitness. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career teaching high school physical education at Stamford Collegiate, Grey Highlands [Flesherton] and NFCVI. He was a dedicated teacher and coach, always encouraging students and athletes to be their best. Doug was a talented athlete enjoying competition throughout his life on the field, diamond, ice, and court. His “love of the game” included playing cribbage and crokinole with the grandkids, and daily walks throughout the neighbourhood. Thank you to Dr. MacTavish, Dr. Connolly, Dr. Rohani and the physicians and staff at Greater Niagara General Hospital/Niagara Health for your care.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls on Sunday, May 7 from 1-6 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 8 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery [Brodhagen] at a later date. If desired, remembrance donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, The War Amps, or the charity of your choice.

Rest in Peace. You meant the world to us.
