Obituary for Edie Mihaychuk (Formerly Rosenblatt nee Speck)

MIHAYCHUK, Edie (Formerly Rosenblatt nee Speck) – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edie on Monday, September 2, 2019 at the St. Catharines Hospital. Beloved wife and best friend of Bill for 19 years. Devoted mother of Robin Izzo (Walt), April Viele (Bill) and Marie Grazley (Scott). Special mom to Shelley Cristelli and Rebecca Knight. Adored Grammie of Brennan O’Sullivan (Alicia), Devan O’Sullivan, Michael Roy (Julie), Bradley Bigelow, Brandon Bigelow (Natalie), Jessica Laffan (Sean), Rebecca O’Sullivan (Tolga), Peter Izzo, Sophia Izzo (Isaac), Briana Viele and Michael Viele. Loving great Grammie of Declan, Izabel, Landon and Méabh. Dear sister of Charlie Speck (Cheryl) and sister-in-law of Ron (Tina), Larry (Terry), Peter (Liz), Michael (Diane) and David (Glenda). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by her precious fur babies. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Mildred Speck, father-in-law Harry, mother-in-law Katie Mihaychuk and stepchildren Yvonne McClaren, Michael McClaren and Sandy Mitchell.
Edie retired from NSBE/DSBN, after 31 years of service as an administrative secretary at A.N. Myer. She was instrumental in the implementation of an association and then the first union OPSEU for the support staff of NSBE, she also served as President of the local. Edie was instrumental in the negotiations and implementation of pay equity for her local. She volunteered with the local YWCA, after which time she became President for a number of years.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St. Niagara Falls, on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate the life of Edie, will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. Burial in Fairview Cemetery and a reception to follow. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to either the YWCA, Humane Society or to your local women’s shelter.
