Obituary for Edison Cecil Sherar

SHERAR, Edison C. - Passed away peacefully with his loving wife of many years, Maria Sherar (nee Demny) and his family at his side, in his 88th year. He is the loving father of Barbara Demny and doting grandfather of Laura and Eric Gouthro. From a previous marriage he is also the father of Jeffrey, Gregory and Lori Sherar. Cherished grandfather of Kayleigh, Ryan and Jordan Sherar. Born on February 23, 1931 and raised in Niagara Falls on Emory Street, the third son of Pearl and Henry ’Harry’ Sherar. He leaves behind his brother Stanley (Diane) Sherar, first cousin Micheal (Elizabeth) Sherar of Halifax and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters Joyce (Cecil) McRae and Marjorie (William) McQuestion and his brothers Colin (Florence) Sherar of Ottawa and Kenneth (Doris) Sherar. Edison was a lifelong member of Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church since the age of 15, and served as an Elder for many years. Edison also spent many years as a Big Brother. As a young man, Edison was an avid runner, a track athlete and a basketball player. In 1977 he was instrumental in updating Oakes Park Running Track. He was also inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 as a track athlete. Edison was committed to community service and he loved the city of Niagara Falls. In the 1980’s he served two terms as Alderman on Niagara Falls City Council and as a Counselor for the Region Municipality of Niagara.
Family will receive friends at Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church visiting Friday 10 to 11 am. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Edison’s Life will be held at 11 am at the church. Inurment will follow at Drummond Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Drummond Hill Church Hope Fund or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
