Obituary for Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne Pattinson

Elizabeth “Betsy” Anne Pattinson
August 4, 1956 – May 24, 2023

Sadly, on May 24, 2023, we lost our very special sister, Betsy, to a very quick cancer. She passed quietly and peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre palliative care in Toronto. Her beautiful smile will be remembered by so many.
She leaves behind her loving family, her sister Sandy Reynolds (Barry) of Bobcaygeon, her brother Jake Pattinson (Tricia) of Bancroft and her brother Tom Pattinson (Sharon) of Uxbridge. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews: Kerry Reynolds, Jamie Reynolds, Scott Pattinson, Cory Pattinson, Greg Pattinson, Jennifer Pattinson, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.
Family was very special to Betsy. Sadly, Mom died when Betsy was only twenty-two, so our dad continued as a very important part of her life. She loved all the family celebrations – birthdays (especially hers), family Christmases with nieces and nephews, summer visits at the lake in Bancroft, sister visits for Canada Day in Bobcaygeon, visits to the horse stables with Farrah and Lilly.
Betsy’s family is so thankful for the wonderful people who made Betsy’s life as happy and as independent as it could be. A special thank you to her loving, supportive apartment mate, Kelly, who helped Betsy in so many ways for over fifteen years. We also thank her extended second family of friends and support workers from Community Living Toronto (Etobicoke) and also her very special friend and neighbour, Valentina Maya and her family. They all helped in so many ways to allow her to remain happy and quite independent most of her life.
Prior to Covid, Betsy was very active in the Community Living community. For forty-five years, her many different support workers helped her manage her day-to-day living. She especially loved her many art classes at the Creative Village Studio and spending a few weeks at Shadow Lake Camp each summer. Camp was always scheduled so that she could celebrate her birthday there – the centre of attention, of course!
A special thank you to Betsy’s doctors, GP Dr. Ciara Quigley and Neurologist, Dr. Roy Baskind, for many years of care. Thank you also to the caring nurses and doctors at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Oncology and Palliative Care.
Betsy has been cremated and will be buried in the Pattinson family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Niagara Falls. A celebration of life in Betsy’s honour will be held at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main St. Niagara Falls, ON, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 12 noon, with a reception to follow.
