Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Hallam

HALLAM, Elizabeth “Betty”- Passed away peacefully at her home at Queenston Place in Niagara Falls on Friday January 29, 2021 in her 90th year. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Donald Roy Hallam (2014) and her son Robert (1957). Betty is survived by her children, Ross (Karen), Laura (Brent Shergold) and Barry (Suzanne). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Steve (Nathalie) and Megan (Adrian), Brianne (Ken), Charlotte, Jessica, Ema, and Amanda (Deric). Additionally, loved by her great-grandson Damon, and her great-great-granddaughter Amara, as well as Justin and Stephan, Mya and Owen, who all provided her with smiles, cuddles, laughter and love. Born Feb 27, 1931 in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Betty was raised during the depression and developed the skill and thrift common with people of those times. Her ever present collections of washed and carefully saved margarine containers, empty foil trays, elastic bands and carefully folded plastic shopping bags were a source of teasing and required their own closet. Betty was active in the United Church her whole life being a member of the UCW and choir and could always be heard humming. She was also well known for her amazing chocolate Easter eggs. Betty made them by hand in the hundreds each year, filled with jelly beans and decorated with meticulous icing flowers and script names. For weeks they covered every flat surface of her home until safely delivered each year. Visits to her home were standing room only. Her church, golf, curling, and bridge club filled her life and helped her build a network of friends in Chippawa, Trois Rivière, at Stamford Estates and then at Queenston Place where she resided. Her sharp wit stayed with her to the end and she even tried to kick her grandson in the butt from her bed when he got too saucy in her final days. We must express our gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Queenston Place for the care, love and compassion they showed Betty and our past family members who have resided there over the years. Words of thanks will never be enough. Cremation has taken place. Betty’s family would love nothing more than to share her life and times with you, but in accordance with the current pandemic restrictions, a private graveside service will take place. A livestream video of the service will be available at www.facebook.com/morseandson on Friday February 5, 2021 at 1 pm. Arrangements entrusted to MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation the Sick Kids Hospital Foundation.
