Obituary for Ellen Mary Bean (Drury)

BEAN, Ellen Mary (nee Drury) – November 14, 1922 – April 10, 2021 – Passed away peacefully at Douglas Memorial Hospital in her 99th year. Beloved wife of Walter William Bean (2000). Ellen leaves to cherish her memory her loving and caring daughter Elsie Caroline Spear and her husband David Spear Sr. of Fort Erie. Devoted grandmother of David Spear Jr., Ellen (Dean) Whittingham and Heather Chambers Spear (Ivan). Dear great-grandmother of Jennifer (Roberto), Amanda, Kyle, Bethany, Alex, Hunter and MacKenzie. Caring great-great-grandmother of Lucas. Predeceased by her parents Elsie Reed Drury (1936) and David Blake Drury (1944) and her siblings Hazen (Betty) Drury, Hilda (Fred) Thurston, Ester (Lawton) Lowe and infant sister Elsie. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Ellen was born in Detroit Michigan, USA, coming to farm in Foley Township, Parry Sound with her family in the early spring of 1932. She was a switch board operator for Bell Canada before her marriage to Walter in 1941. She and her beloved husband enjoyed 59 years of happy marriage in Niagara Falls and for many years operated a dairy farm in the former Stamford Township. Ellen dearly loved her family and friends and played a positive role in the lives she touched. Compassionate, caring, strong of faith, kind and generous, she lived her life with gentleness and grace. Ellen leaves her family a legacy of love and devotion which will never be forgotten. Many thanks to the angels from March of Dimes and of late Bayshore Home Care and Nurses of Paramed, Elizabeth, Dyane and Rebecca. Thanks for the care of Dr. Scher, Dr Dargavel, Dr. Broski and Dr. Zimakas. Also thanks to Pastor Gouvea and members of Faith Reformed Church and those faithful Christian Prayer Warriors who lifted her up through her long battle with Kidney Disease. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. A public celebration of Ellen’s life will take place at a later date.
