Obituary for Ethel Hetherington (Gyenes)

Ethel Hetherington (Gyenes)
HETHERINGTON, Ethel (Gyenes) – The family of Ethel Hetherington sadly announces her passing on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Tufford Manor, St. Catharines, thirteen days after our Dad’s passing. During 71 years of marriage Mom and Dad did almost everything together so it came as no real surprise that they would leave this life together. She leaves her three children; David (Ann), Rick (Carol) and Beth Legere (Tom), seven much loved grandchildren; Lee (Mandy), Kyle (Shannon), Andrew, Michael (Jennifer), Lauren, Meg and Heather and two adored great grandsons; Matthew and Miles. She is missed terribly by sister and brother-in-law Liz and Bob Bratley, sisters-in-law; Lydia Britt, Violet Warden and Margaret Dickson and brother-in-law Ken Hetherington (Jean) and sisters-in-law; Evelyn and Carol. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her beloved brother Bill (Goldie), brothers-in-law; William (Margaret), Alexander, James, George and Robert (Ruth), Lorne Britt, Ken Warden and Bob Dickson and much-loved cousin and her husband, our Aunt Olga and Uncle Elmer Szabo. Mom was born on November 11, 1925, in Szalonna, Hungary and emigrated in 1935 with her mother and brother eventually joining our grandfather in Chippawa, Ontario. Mom took great pride in our home on Maranda Street where she raised her family. Once Dad retired, they embarked on the next chapter of their lives filled with volunteering, travel, and being a wonderful grandma to the loves of her life, her grandchildren. Our family would like to extend our affection and gratitude to the caring staff at both Willoughby Manor and Tufford Manor and to Dr. David Dec, his staff and Dr. Luce for their compassionate medical care.
The Hetherington family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, ON, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate the life of Ethel, will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow with a private family interment at Fairview Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, donations to honour Mom may be made to either the War Amps or Project Share.
