PETRAKIS, George - With family by his side on June 6, 2022 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Stella for 55 years. Loving father of Bessie Govostis (Nick) and Peter Petrakis (Laura). Cherished “Papou George” of Dina and Peter Govostis and Stella and George Petrakis. Dear brother of Angelo and Jimmy Petrakis and Helen Hantzianis. George is predeceased by his brothers Tommy, Taki, and Louie Petrakis, and sister Koula Kokkori. Born in 1934 in Doliana, Greece, George immigrated to Canada where he worked with his brothers and established the Golden Steer Restaurant, where he worked tirelessly for 67 years up to his retirement in 2015. George always put the love for his family first and did whatever was needed for them. He will be sorely missed. Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the GNGH and a special thank you to the home care personnel.
Visitation will be held at the MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. The first Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio will take place on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 7p.m. at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME. The second Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio followed by the Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, (585 Niagara Street, St. Catharines, Ontario), with the final Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
