Obituary for Joe "Giuseppe" D'Agostino

D’AGOSTINO, Joe (Giuseppe) –
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joe (Giuseppe) D’Agostino on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Hamilton General Hospital, at the age of 93. Beloved uncle of Maria, Robert (Hilda), Luigi (Paula), Cesidio, Claudio (Marisa), Vilma (David), Josie and the late Patricia. He will be missed by his many cousins in New Jersey, Italy, and Mississauga, ON; especially by cousins Joanne (Fernando) and Brenda. Fondly remembered by many great nephews and nieces, especially around Eastertime, and by his great grand nephews and nieces, and friends. Predeceased by his parents Silvano and Concetta, his sisters, Lucia, Maria, and Liberata and his brother Sandrino.
In June 1951, Joe immigrated to Niagara Falls, Canada from Collarmele, Italy to seek a better life for himself and to be closer to family. He worked as a welder on many projects like the Hydro Canal Tunnel and various bridges around the Niagara Region. After some time working in Mississauga, he retired back to Niagara Falls. He enjoyed gardening, going over the River with his loving companion Mary for the Saturday buffets and tinkering in his workshop inventing gadgets and tools with recycled materials. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lundy Manor for the care given to “Papa Joe” during the last three years. Also, to the first responders, Dr. Gupta and the emergency staff at the Hamilton General Trauma Center for the comfort and care given during his final moments.
Cremation has already taken place. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, 6548 Dorchester Rd. Niagara Falls, ON, on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11 AM. Rite of committal will follow in Fairview Cemetery (Morrison St. and Stanley Ave.) As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to Project Share or the Brain Injury Association of Niagara.
