ORESCANIN, John
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Janko) on Friday September 16th surrounded by his family at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Millie (deceased December 2021). Loving father of Dan (Chris). Cherished grandfather of Nathan (Mary), great grandfather of Kevin Bateman (Ashley), Sarah Crichton (Scott), Nickolas and Jenna and great great grandfather to Reed, Ian and Brooklyn. Dear brother of Eli and sister in law Koviljka. Predeceased by brothers Dragan and Milan. Cica (uncle) to Mike Orescanin, Nena (Craig) Wicken, Jay (Jenna) Orescanin, Angeline Judge and Milena Orescanin. Cousin to Pajo Loncar. Ujak to Dusan and Dara Popovich and Rose Loncar. Brother in law to Lorna Utvich, George (Judy) Utvich and Danica Utvich. Predeceased by in-laws Sam, Dragica, Michael, Steve and Anne and cousin Branka and husband Mile Popovich. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and Kumovi and friends.
John came to Canada from Cemernica, Yugoslavia with his mother and youngest brother Eli to join his father in 1950. Soon afterwards he met the love of his life Millie Utvich and they were married in 1953 for 68 years.
John worked at New York Central railway in Niagara Falls as a brakeman in his early years. Later he worked at General Motors and developed a love of cars. One of his favorite past times was pouring over the Auto Trader with his grandson Nathan. He also loved garage sales and auctions always beaming when he came home with a good deal. John was a fun loving man with a warm smile and a keen sense of humour which he maintained to the end.
John was a man of strong faith and a proud member of St. George’s Orthodox Church where he served on the executive and was a member in the choir. He loved to sing throughout his life and even recently could often be heard singing in the common areas of his long term care home. At the age of 86, he began painting with fervor and produced numerous pieces many of which are proudly displayed in the homes of family, friends, doctors office and resident’s rooms at Bella retirement home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of The Vineyards at Chippawa Creek at Bella Care Residence for their dedication and care to John. Thank you also to Dr. Safranyos who helped John tap into creative abilities which gave him great joy in his later years.
