Randle - Laurel Annette (1963-2021)
Unexpectedly and far too soon on April 8, 2021 at her home in Ottawa, Laurel left us in her 58th year.
Born in Oshawa, Laurel grew up in Ottawa, and attended high school in Niagara Falls at A. N. Myer SS. Upon graduation, Laurel attended Carleton University back in Ottawa, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
After graduating, she returned to Niagara Falls and started her 15 year career as a Customs Inspector with Revenue Canada (Customs and Excise). Her career choice was a perfect fit for her extraordinary sense of fairness and compassion, which led her to becoming the local President of the Customs and Excise Union (CEUDA). She followed that passion, and in 2002 moved back to Ottawa, to pursue a job opportunity as a Labour Relations officer at the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) where she worked for the past 19 yrs. Her ability to listen and offer an unbiased perspective was respected immensely by her colleagues and made her the go-to person at the national office.
Throughout her life, Laurel loved to travel and she truly saw the world, including trips to Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia, to name just a few. She was always up for a road trip, an adventure, and had so many amazing friends to share these experiences and to travel with.
Laurel had a large circle of friends that included her long-time high school friends, her University friends, her neighbours, and her Niagara golf girls. She gathered friends in every aspect of her life, everywhere she went, and kept close contact with each and every one.
While her friends and family were so important to her, Laurel created her own family when she adopted her beloved rescue Lily, her wire-haired dachshund, who was always at her side for the last seven plus years.
Laurel is survived by her mother Donna, her brother Bryan and sister Deb Vukelich, nieces Liz Randle (Nate Oliver) and Sam Vukelich, her Aunt Wanda Campese, and cousins Nicco, Sandra, Siera, Luka, Natalie, Rich, Lorenzo and Stefano. Predeceased by her father John, brother-in-law Michael Vukelich, and Uncle Ernie Campese.
Laurel will also be missed by her extended families and all who had the pleasure of having her in their lives. Laurel touched so many, with her wit and sense of humour, her kind and gentle soul, everyone who knew her well recognized the strength of her beautiful heart.
