Obituary for Margaret "Maggie" Baker (Jakobsen)

BAKER, Margaret “Maggie” (nee Jakobsen),
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed softly in her sleep surrounded by her family in Niagara Falls, on Sunday, April 30th, 2023, in her 73rd year.
Born in Hareid Norway, she was the last of 9 children born to Rolf and Hjordis Jakobsen (Sather). A proud and fierce Norwegian, in true Viking style, at 20 she took to the seas in a fishing boat named the Polar Star and crossed the Atlantic to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
It was in Halifax, she met a charming, smart, and devilishly handsome fella named Guy Baker, who it turned out was the great love of her life. They married and for 51 years built a life and a family filled with love. They brought two beautiful children into the world, Sean Torbjorn, born in Newfoundland and then welcomed a daughter Sonja Mercedes a few years later in Brockville. After several years of moving in the Hotel and Hospitality industry they eventually settled into life in Toronto.
Maggie worked in the Hotel and Hospitality industry most of her career, making lifelong friends that were a part of her extended family.
If you knew Maggie, nothing made her happier than spending her day cooking to bring the people she loved together over food and drink. If you sat at the Baker table, you were part of the great extended family of friends. Her garden was an expression of how she lived, full of colour, joy and vibrancy. Ever the fierce Viking warrior never was an inch granted in a battle of Rumoli, Poker, Euchre or Cribbage. You took your chances and hoped for the best. Oofda!
She will be deeply missed by her husband Guy, son Sean and Heather, daughter Sonja and Brad, Randi, Rosemary, Mark and Vicki, Katy and Eric, Ali and Raff, Kristen, and Marco, Shealagh, and beloved granddaughters, Riley, Brooke, Quinn, Willow, August and Violet. The Family in Norway, sister Eli, Nephews Bjorn, Vidar, Egil, Halvar, Ronny, Jorn, Peter, and niece Janne. A private family inurnment took place in Stamford Green Heritage Columbarium. Maggie has requested a Celebration of Life where we can share stories, food and drink and be brought together one more time just for her. The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, ON, on Saturday May 27th, 2023, at 12:00 noon and will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/morseandson.
