ZEFFIRO, Maria – Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital with her loving family by her side on Saturday April 29, 2023, at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Salvatore Rotella (1970). Dear sister of Raffaele Zeffiro and Vince (Anna) Zeffiro. Loving mother of Angelo (Carrie) Zeffiro & stepmother of Marcello (Sherri) Rotella. Cherished aunt of Mary (Lou) Muraco, Anna Paladino, and Pat (Lynn) Paladino. Caring step-grandmother to Cara Hutton (Steve Amminson) and Drew Hutton. Fondly remembered by many friends, and extended family locally, in Canada, in the USA, and in Italy. Predeceased by her parents Emilio and Maria Michela (nee Guglielmo) Zeffiro and her sister Lucia (Antonio) Paladino.
Maria was born in Santa Croce di Magliano, Italy on September 11, 1934 and immigrated to Canada in 1965 where she met the love of her life Salvatore Rotella. Her and Salvatore welcomed their son Angelo in 1967. When Maria’s husband sadly passed away in 1970, her parents joined her here in Canada to help and support her. With the love and assistance of her parents and siblings they created a loving home for Angelo. She had a passion for cooking, tending to her own garden and making preserves for her family. Family was the centre of her life and would remind everyone that “family needs to stick together!”
Maria’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care she received in her final days with us.
Friends and family are invited to call at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Thursday May 4, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm and Friday May 5, 2023, from 12 to 2 pm. A service to celebrate the life of Maria will take place on Friday May 5, 2023 in the chapel at 2pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
