Obituary for Marion "Marney" Broderick (Schulz)

BRODERICK, Marion “Marney” (Schulz) –
On January 4, 2023, Marion (Marney) Gertrude Broderick died in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. She was 94 years old.
Marney is survived by her husband John (Jack) Broderick of Niagara Falls, ON; her children, Chris Schulz of Denver, CO, Caryn Ocuto of Bolingbrook , IL, Marney Schulz of Williamsville, NY, Robert Schulz of Arlington, MA, Gretchen Schulz of Buffalo, NY, and David Schulz of Studio City, CA; and siblings John Zimmermann of Glenwood, NY and Barbara Zimmermann of Melbourne, Australia. She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Schulz, her parents Gerard and Marion MacDonald-Zimmermann, her brothers David, Robert and Gerard Zimmermann, her sister Betsy Zimmermann-Naylon, and her daughter Const Schulz.
Marney was born on October 7, 1928 in Buffalo, NY. She was educated at two private catholic schools—Stella Niagara, in Lewiston, NY and Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD, received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY and a master’s degree in special education from Buffalo State College, the latter after having raised seven children with her first husband Robert Schulz to begin a second rewarding career teaching learning disabled children in the Buffalo, NY school system.
Marney married her first husband Robert (Bob) Schulz, an accomplished pianist, church organist, choir director, and conductor in Buffalo, NY in May 1953. She had a beautiful soprano voice, sang in several catholic church choirs directed by her husband, as well as the Buffalo Choral Arts Society founded and led by her husband. In 35 years of marriage, Marney and Bob raised seven children, who under their nurturing love, support and encouragement, were able to achieve widely divergent careers and talents in science, engineering, teaching, music and theater. Four of her children married and raised ten of their own children, (plus four grandchildren) all of whom loved to spend time with their grandmother and great grandmother at family gatherings.
Marney married her second husband Jack Broderick, himself a widower, practicing lawyer and founder of Broderick and Partners law firm in Niagara Falls, ON, in May 1988. They were both avid tennis players and met on a blind date at the White Oaks Tennis Club in Niagara Falls. Marney moved into Jack’s beautiful home in Niagara Falls, where they regularly entertained family and friends; she was soon dubbed the “Queen of Valley Way.” This loving marriage united two remarkable American and Canadian families that included 12 children, 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Marney Broderick-Schulz-Zimmermann lived a full and blessed life, having enjoyed the love and respect of two devoted husbands, each for 35 years, and returning their love in equal measure. She is now singing with the Choir of Angels in Heaven.
The family would like to thank Nancy Jenkins for the care, compassion and friendship she provided to Marney for the last year. And we wish to thank the staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital who were so kind in her last few days.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 4673 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, on Tuesday January 10, 2023 at 11 am. Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.morseandson.com
