Obituary for Mary Irene Brown (Shay)
BROWN, Mary Irene (Shay) – Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 10, 2022 at The Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 95.
Beloved wife of Thomas William “Bill” Brown (d. 2013). Devoted mother of Cindy, Judi (Don), Bill (d. 2015), Tom (Kim), and Linda (d. 1947). Adored grandmother of Erin (Anthony), Shannon (John), David (Angela), Jonathan (Holly), Dan, Linda (Daniel), and Michael. Loving great-Grandmother of Ava, Anthony, Julia, Jimmy, Mya, Sam, Ben, and Finley. Pre-deceased by, son-in-law Brian Milner (2017), and daughter-in-law Dixie (2004). Mary and Bill settled in Niagara in 1953, where she helped her husband start and build the family business, Browns Septic Service, while simultaneously, building and providing for her family. Her ability to make people feel welcome and cared for made her a favourite with everyone. Her love of baking and cooking was cheerfully shared, and everyone had a favourite whether it was her buttertarts, cookies or, annual Christmas cake. She was a constant provider of all things good, and infused sweetness into every life she touched. She will be remembered fondly by generations of family, friends, and neighbours. More than a mother to her children, she was a shining example of how to live your life to the fullest, enjoying the simple, important blessings.
Cremation has taken place, arrangements entrusted to Morse & Son Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to The Niagara Antique Power Association.
