Obituary for Merna Unrau

UNRAU, Merna - Merna passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., in her 82nd year. She leaves behind her loving husband, Henry, of 61 years. She was a lovingly devoted mother to Rona (Bernd), Relda (Frank), Reagen (Cindy), and Resa-Marie (Pietro). She will be sadly missed by her 11 grandchildren, Jacob (Brianne), Benjamin (Miranda), Kyle (Kate-Ann), Philip (Inbal), Cameron, Ryan (Rachel), Robyn (Jeremy), Riley (Magdalena), Juvea, Nieva and Roc. She enjoyed playing and reading to her 6 great-grandchildren. She will be forever treasured by her surviving brother Bob (Magny) and “The Best Sister” Bonnie (late husband Rick) along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Rodney.
Merna worked for over 20 years at the Salvation Army Eventide Home tending the front office and helping all of her beloved seniors there with their day-to-day needs and wishes with an ever-so-compassionate and respectful manner, which is how she treated everyone who came into contact with her.
She served as the co-Leader of the Missions committee at Redeemer Bible Church alongside her husband Henry for many years, and even traveled to Venezuela with a team to assist in building a radio tower and distribute short wave radios for people to hear the gospel. Both Merna & Henry had such a passion for missionary work that after retirement they moved to Lachute, Quebec to volunteer at Camp des Iles with Merna helping out in the kitchen during the summer months. They still maintain many strong friendships there. Upon moving back to Niagara with the help of the family, Merna spent the last 5 years enjoying time with her many doting family members who showered her with love and affection, as she so deserved.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Friday December 9 from 4-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Internment at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery where she will join her parents Bert & Marion. There will be a reception at Glengate Church in the Abide Cafe, 6009 Valley Way, Niagara Falls. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to One Hope Canada, www.onehopecanada.ca
