It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Lucas on Sunday October 8th, 2023, at his residence in St. Catharines, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Elvira for 49 years. Devoted father of Andrew. Dear brother of Theodore “Ted” (Donna) and Thomas “Tom” (Susan) Lucas. Fondly remembered by many family members, friends, work colleagues and past students.
As a child Mike’s father owned and operated a Sunoco gas station and sold Studebaker cars, this was where he was introduced to a world of mechanics and cars. Immersed in this world, Mike studied, learned and became mechanic himself. After several years working as a mechanic, Mike went back to night school where he obtained his teaching degrees to be able to share his skills and teach high school students. Mike was a proud and devoted Lakeport Laker and served many as a very accomplished educator at the former Lakeport High School in St. Catharines, teaching all technical subjects. In retirement, Mike and his son Andrew established a business together Lucas Emergency Power (1999), where they provide services and equipment to local Fortune 500, and other companies. Mike was well known for his hobbies of restoring various equipment, old cars, and houses, and for his green thumb and the gardens he would create. During relaxation time, Mike enjoyed a good cigar, that he often lit with a torch. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the late Dr. Whitty, for his exceptional care he provided for over 50 years.
The family will receive friends at The Morse & Son Event Centre, 5929 Main St., Niagara Falls, for a time of fellowship and sharing of Mike’s memory, and serving of light refreshments on Sunday October 22nd, 2023, between 2-4pm.
