Obituary for Mila Rajsic

Mila Rajšić (née Lončar) will always be remembered for being an independent, quick witted and good-natured spirit. Life wasn’t always easy for her. Far from it. She was born in the tiny village of Donji Sjeničak. Mila and most of her family survived those four unfathomably cruel years during WWII. Mila only ever attended primary school as she was required to work on her family’s farm. Mila left the former Yugoslavia at the age of 18 without knowing a word of English and with only five dollars in her pocket. She embarked on creating a better life for herself in Canada. She first settled in Hamilton where she married her late husband Ostoja Rajšić (1930-1998.) They quickly moved to Niagara Falls and raised two appreciative daughters, Mary (Hughes) and Milena (Glavic.) Mila along with her family ran the USA Motel for 16 years. Mila loved being with family, talking with friends, gardening, going for walks and out for a ride. She was the matriarch of the family for decades. She will be dearly missed by her children Milena (Mike) and Mary (Mike), and her grandchildren: Nicholas, Michelle, Monica (Rob), Andrea (Cody), Bryan and Stephen. Mila had three siblings, the late Mara, the late Jovo (Joe) and Kata. Her memory is eternal. She will forever be in our hearts. Love you Mila! Michelle will be dedicating her human rights award in her baba’s memory for her work towards the remembrance of the Serbian Genocide of WWII which will be held on July 7th (the Uprising of the Serbian People Day) in Belgrade Serbia.
