Obituary for Paul James Woodward

WOODWARD, Paul James –
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Paul James Woodward on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 77.

Paul was the beloved friend and husband of Kay Woodward for 42 years, and a wonderful father to their daughter Sarah of whom he was endlessly proud. He loved them both so much. Paul is further survived by his children Adrian and Cheryl, who he was grateful to reconnect with over recent months.

Born in Birmingham England on June 26, 1946, Paul often reminisced about his time in the Scouts and his service on a mine sweeper with the British naval reserves, before finally setting sail for a new life in Canada with his family in 1969.

Many will remember Paul as a business banker with Royal Bank of Canada where he worked for 31 years at various locations in Hamilton, Welland, Burlington and St. Catharines before his retirement in 2007.

Paul was a man of many talents, from photography to gardening to carving works of art. He was passionate about woodworking and building, and all benefited from his handiwork as there was nothing he could not do. He was a real-life ‘MacGyver’ always up for a challenge and eager to assist with any task, no matter how big or small.

An avid cyclist, Paul enjoyed regular bike trips across Niagara and shared many memorable bike adventures with family and friends. Paul was also an enthusiastic traveller, delighting in family trips across the globe. Above all however, Paul loved sharing experiences with others. He was a remarkably generous teacher and advisor to all.

Paul spent much of his life giving back to his community. Following his retirement, Paul spent many years as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Niagara. An excellent craftsman, Paul devoted many years to the restoration and maintenance of the Morningstar Mill in St. Catharines where he will be greatly missed by his many wonderful fellow volunteers, now friends.

Paul put incredible effort into every task, with an emphasis on making life easier for others. His family are so proud of his achievements and the example he left for others.

Paul truly made his mark on all who knew him, and his loss will be keenly felt by many. He will never be forgotten.
