Condolences

Condolence From: Sister Carolyn Nicolai FSP
Condolence: In 1984, Fr. Angelo was assigned to St. Agnes Parish in Phoenix, where he was well received and very active in all parish ministries. In 1986, Jack Cotter, the CEO of Catholic Community Services, with the blessing of the bishop, requested that Fr. Angelo return to Tucson to serve every single nursing home in Tucson. At that time, the only Catholic Nursing home was sold. Fr. Angelo had three Sisters who worked with him, I was the third and I worked with him since l994. We went to 25 nursing homes ;twice a month for Mass and bedside visits. He had a wonderful bedside manner and helped many people make the move from this life to the next. He celebrated two to three Masses every day. All the residents loved him and looked forward to seeing him.. We ministered for Catholic Community Services until 2015, and then volunteered in one facility, and also brought communion to the sick until he passed away.
He welcomed back many people to the church, who left for one reason or another. He was also one of those rare priests who would get up in the middle of the night to go to the home of a dying person and anoint him or her.
In our program we had about 100 volunteers who were the heart of our ministry. Every year we celebrated them with a Mass and luncheon to show our love and appreciation. A well deserved thank you for such wonderful people. Jack Cotter said many times that our ministry was the diocese's best kept secret, and I'm convinced now that it was. Every Sunday for close to ten years Fr. Angelo celebrated Mass at St. Ann's Chapel on Sabino Canyon Rd. for about seventy-five people.
Fr. Angelo ministered until the end. He celebrated Mass at Fellowship Square, and attended a funeral at St. Cyrils right up to the lockdown of his home. when he could no longer leave his room.
Let us remember Fr. Angelo and all he has meant to all of us.

Condolence From: Fr. Derek Pedersen
Condolence: Dear Margaret and Family members:

I am very sorry to hear about the passing Fr. Mastria. As an altar server at St. Ann’s parish and as a priest, I remember the kindness, understanding and compassion that Fr. Mastria exemplified in his ministry. I also remember how proud your mom was of her son. Be assured that I will celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the repose of Fr. Mastria’ s soul and I will pray that our Heavenly Father will comfort you during this difficult time. May Fr. Mastria be welcomed by the Risen Christ into Paradise and may he be reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him.

With sympathy and prayers,
Fr. Derek Pedersen.
