Obituary for Richard L. "Rick" Johnson

JOHNSON, Richard Laird
August 5, 1949 – May 4, 2021
Rick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Mary Jean (nee Brown), for 49 years. Loving father of Scott, Aaron (Jaime) and the late Kimberly and his furry friend Joey. Adored grandfather of Alex and Kylie. Dear brother of John (Michelle), Paul, Janet and the late Sheila McGinley and brother-in-law of Desmond McGinley. He will be missed by his Brown family; Susan Atkinson (Harold), Julie Poupore (Tom), Timothy Brown (Cara), Dave Brown and Debbie Rutledge and the late Michael Brown. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and special friends Gord and Cheryl Nash. Predeceased by his parents Ellis and Hazel Johnson and his in-laws Harry and Rachel Brown.
Rick started his working career at Tremco Mfg. in Toronto in sales where he met his wife. Later moving to Niagara Falls where his wife was from, and started their family. Richard worked at Oneida Silverware as well as continuing his education at Brock University, achieving his BA in Political Science. He then moved on to the photo business with Colortron and Fuigi Film. He ended his working career with his dream job, as parliamentary assistant to Rob Nicholson. Rick struggled for many years with diabetes but kept moving forward. His biggest struggle was the loss of his beloved daughter Kim. He enjoyed every minute of his times with his children, vacations, and sports and shared the same love for movies. Enjoyed all time spent with his grandson and getting to know his granddaughter. He and his wife enjoyed years of travelling. Rick had a great passion for writing, golfing with his friends and a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten and, in our hearts, forever. Special thanks to the GNGH for all their care, Dr. Morin, Dr. Nagai and Lisa Hastings for years of care. Cremation and a private ceremony at Fairview Mausoleum has taken place. A celebration of life will follow at a later date. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to either Diabetes Canada or to the Kidney Foundation and can be done through Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, ON (905)-356-3550.
