Obituary for Steve Szolga
SZOLGA, Steve–
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Szolga, on June 26th, 2023, at the age of 91. Steve leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Irene, and his children Bill (Ann Louise d.1999), Gary (Theresa), and Cathy (Atsushi). Grandchildren, William (Caroline), Harmony, Brian, Ryan (Brie), and Shion, and great-grandson Henry.
Steve worked for Ontario Hydro from 1952 until his retirement as a crane operator in 1993. During his working life he also held positions within the union such as Chief Steward for CUPE 1000, Union Chairman, and 2nd Vice President. Following his retirement, Steve continued to serve Hydro employees in various Hydro Pensioners positions for 14 years before resigning as the Pensioner Director at the age of 80. Steve enjoyed spending time with family as well as golfing, bowling, and fishing with his lifelong friends.
As per Steve’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Saturday July 8th, 2023, between 11am and 1pm, with a service to celebrate the life of Steve to begin at 1pm. Interment at Fairview Cemetery to follow. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
