Obituary for Ann Margaret Ferencz

Ann Margaret Ferencz
FERENCZ, Ann Margaret (nee Embleton) - It is with shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ann, who died peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday October 2nd, while rocking in her beloved Roxton glider at Stamford Estates.
Before retirement, Ann was a long-time staff member at the Shaw Festival, where she served on the Executive of IATSE Local 461. In her younger days, she was a registered nurse, and she cherished the friendships she made during training in the 1960s. Ann was a member of the Girl Guide Trefoil Guild and the Niagara Historical Society, and volunteered with both the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Liberal Party of Canada.
Predeceased by husband Bill Ferencz & siblings Bob, Gordon and Susie Embleton, Ann was no stranger to life’s struggles. She faced her biggest this summer, when she underwent emergency heart surgery at Hamilton General Hospital. Her family – daughters Margaret, Tracey and Keri, siblings Jane and Ed Embleton, son in law Greg Spottiswood, and niece Lonnie Embleton ¬– are so proud of the miraculous recovery she made following that surgery, and immensely grateful to have walked alongside her as she did so.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening from 7 – 9pm. A memorial service, led by Ann’s friend and long-time minister Harvey Tobey, will take place 12:30pm Wednesday at Stamford Lane United Church.
We wish to thank the staff and residents of Stamford Estates for making our mother feel so welcome this year. Our gratitude also to the staff at Shaver Hospital and Ann’s medical team, including Dr. Melina Asti, Dr. Kreason Rajagopaul, Dr. Li Zhang, and longtime family Dr. Patrick Gibney.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ann’s memory to the Niagara branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
