MESSER, Ellie (nee Payne) born March 22, 1919 – Passed away peacefully at Eventide Home on Tuesday February 19, 2019 in her 100th year. Ellie was born in Huntsville, Ontario, daughter of the late Marshall and Sarah Payne and is predeceased by her four sisters and four brothers. At the age of 16, Ellie moved to Niagara Falls to care for an ill aunt and subsequently met and married the love of her life, the late Jimmy Messer. Here she met life-long friends and enjoyed a full life working at Woolworth’s “across the river” as she called it and selling Avon while also serving as a volunteer at the Niagara Falls hospital. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and the families of old friends.
Visitation will be held at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St. on Friday from 11 am to 1 pm. A Celebration of Ellie’s Life will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. A special thank you to all the staff at the Salvation Army Eventide Home. Aunt Ellie enjoyed peace and companionship there. In memory of Ellie, memorial donations made to The Salvation Army Eventide Home would be appreciated by her family.
