Life Story for Franceska Mergl

Mergl, Franceska
Surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 9, 2019 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her devoted husband Wally. Dearly loved Mother of John (Pam), Linda (Bill), Rose (Dan) and Marietta (Mark). Proud Grandmother of Rob (Lori), Amber and April. Cherished Great Grandmother of 6. She was born in Hungary in 1933, and moved to Germany after the Second World War. At the age of 19, she immigrated to Canada. She had many accomplishments. She was active in local politics, furthered her education at Niagara College where she focused on writing, and graduated with a Certificate as a Health Care Aide in which she cared for many seniors in the community. She was an avid gardener, and a recipient of the N.F. Trillium Award. In 2001 she fulfilled a lifelong dream participating on a mission trip to Guatemala. At the age of 83, she completed and published her autobiography. We are all so very proud of her accomplishments, and grateful to have the gift of her legacy in writing. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was loving, caring, nurturing and our greatest supporter. She was known as “Mom” to many. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
Our sincere thanks to her Palliative Practitioner Heather Whitworth, Dr. Tharmabala and Team at the Walker Cancer Clinic, and Dr. Wilson.
A private family service has taken place. In Franceska’s memory, donations can be made to either the Salvation Army or to Colon Cancer Canada. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.morseandson.com
