Life Story for Joan Gwendolyn Brown (Orr)

Joan Gwendolyn Brown (Orr)
BROWN, Joan Gwendolyn (nee ORR): September 13, 1932 – July 14, 2018. Beloved wife of 65 years of Ronald John Brown; predeceased by her brothers Gordon and Leslie, sisters, Phylis, Freda and Dorothy as well as her eldest son David Leslie (Cairine). Survived by her dear sons James Gordon, Michael Scott and Terrance Alexander McLeod. Cherished grandmother of Alex, Graham and Alison. Joan is also survived by sisters-in-law, Shirley Orr, Barb Brown and Faye Orr, as well as many nieces and nephews all of whom were blessed by her overwhelming support, encouragement and love and are deeply saddened by her passing. Joan was a sought-after volunteer, enthusiastic member of St. Andrew’s United Church Women Pearl Unit and Andy’s Club where she and her husband wrote and staged many successful plays and fundraisers; a talented producer with Rainbow Productions, backer of the Niagara Men’s Chorus, and avid worker for the GNGH Auxiliary, where she volunteered for decades as one of their chief flower arrangers and organizers for their dances. Ever proud of her Niagara Falls heritage Joan and her husband restored a heritage home and filled it with antiques and a knowledge of area history. This love of history and its preservation grew into her becoming a founding member of the Friends of Stamford Village. For this and many other contributions to the artistic life of the City. Joan and her husband Ron, were recently recognized by the Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Commission in its Wall of Fame, the only couple to receive such an honor. An ardent monarchist, talented craftswoman, artist, teacher and friend. Joan always had a story, a joke or a song. Joan is resting at the MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, where family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 o’clock. Funeral will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 19 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Special thanks are extended to Dr. S. Kaptien for her extraordinary care. Joan had many friends and touched many lives but most of all, she loved her “Ronnie” and he loved her. Memorial donations may be made to the Greater Niagara General Hospital Auxiliary.
