Life Story for The Reverend Duncan Austin Lyon

The Reverend Duncan Austin  Lyon
LYON, Major (Rtd) The Reverend Duncan Austin – Passed to his rest on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the age of 79, and in his 56th year of his Ordination. He leaves his beloved wife Wendy, dearest son Matthew (Debbie) and much-loved sister-in-law Marie (late Roger). He is also survived by many relatives and friends in the U.K. and Canada. His devotion to his church, his enthusiasm for all things military, and his deep involvement with Veterans’ Affairs at every level sustained him throughout his life. In the Diocese of Niagara, he ministered to congregations at Holy Trinity, Welland, Christ Church McNab and St. George’s Homer, and for the last 10 years of his fulltime ministry at Christ Church, Niagara Falls. He served and was always known simply as “The Padre”, as Padre to the Lincoln & Welland Regiment, The Lincoln and Welland Regimental Association, The B.C.V.A., The R.C.N.A., The R.C.A.A., The Order of St. George, R.C.L. Branch No. 124 in Niagara-on-the-Lake and for over 20 years at R.C.L. Branch No. 479 in Niagara Falls. He was also the founder of Out of the Cold in Niagara Falls. After retirement he served the parish of St. John the Evangelist for 10 years as Honorary Assistant, was devoted to the Dunn Parish, and returned to Christ Church as Honorary Assistant in 2017.
The Rev. Duncan Lyon will rest in front of the Altar at Christ Church, 4750 Zimmerman Ave., Niagara Falls, on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4- 7 p.m. An act of remembrance under the auspices of the R.C.L. Branch No. 479 will take place at 7 p.m. A casket watch will take place over night. Funeral service in the church on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11 a.m., with cremation to follow. A reception will be held at R.C.L Branch No. 479, 5603 Spring St., Niagara Falls. Private family interment at a later date where Duncan will finally rest in a quiet English country churchyard. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to either the Christ Church Memorial Fund, R.C.L Branch No. 479 Resource Centre/Poppy Fund or Lincoln & Welland Regimental Association.
