Life Story for Tony Lopoyda

Tony Lopoyda
LOPOYDA, Tony – With sons, their wives and grandchildren at his side our father passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital on October 24 at the age of 93. Beloved husband of 65 years to Lalka “Lana” Lopoyda. Loving father of Michael (Monica), Tony (Lana) and the late Ann “ Annie” (1994). Dear deda of Kara, Krista, Matthew, Shawna (Jeremey) and Nancy (Ken) and deda to great-grandchildren Mikaela, Abby and Kai. Survived by his sister Julie (late Mike) of Toronto, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents George and Ana, 2 sisters Vasilija and Marcia and 2 brothers Bill and John. Tony was born in the Ukraine and came to Niagara Falls in 1952 to work on the hydro tunnels. He then worked at Anthes until it closed, then Hodgson Steel and finally retired from Brunner Manufacturing. Dad outlived many churches which closed but was welcomed and worshipped at the Slavic Baptist Church. Dad will also miss the circle of friends at Kaitlin Court where he resided for many years after retirement. Many, many thanks to the staff of dad’s end of life home, Shaver Hospital for the compassionate care of our father in our time of need. Special thanks to Dr. Arvinte who was able to comfort him in his own language during his stay and as he was passing.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Donations gratefully accepted to Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital.
